LEGO PlayStation Is Now Available for LEGO Insiders
Good news, retro gaming fans: the LEGO set based on the original PlayStation console is now available (see it at LEGO). The only catch is that you need to be a LEGO Insider to buy it. Thankfully, you can sign up for free right here. LEGO PlayStation costs $179.99, and it comes with LEGO Astro Bot as a free Gift with Purchase.

If you aren’t a LEGO Insider and you refuse to sign up for a free account for some reason, you’ll be able to buy LEGO PlayStation starting October 4. It’s possible it will sell out quickly, and it’s also possible LEGO Astro Bot will sell out. So if you want to make sure you get one, you’ll want to sign up for the (again, free) LEGO Insiders program.
LEGO PlayStation is a near 1:1 scale set of Sony’s original gaming console, which came out in 1994 in Japan and 1995 in the US. It includes the console as well as the original no-analog-sticks PlayStation controller (the DualShock wouldn’t arrive until three years later).
As with most pricy LEGO sets for adults, the LEGO PS1 has some fun Easter eggs to find. First of all, set's box calls back to the box the original PlayStation came in, which is pretty great. The set's Power and Open buttons actually work. Pressing Power flips a green LEGO piece into view underneath it, as if you were turning it on. The Open button releases the disc cover, letting you see two dioramas hidden inside.
The dioramas are based on Gran Turismo (1997) and Ape Escape (1999). These dioramas can also be removed from the set to display on their own (though that leaves a hole on either side of the PS1 model).
As for LEGO Astro Bot, it's a free Gift With Purchase, but you'll be able to buy it separately at PlayStation Direct for $24.99.
