Nintendo Direct September 2026: Every Big Reveal and Trailer from Kirby to Metroid

And all the trailers, too

Hot on the heels of the Zelda 40th anniversary Direct, Nintendo turned up with a second September Direct. This time, it was all about games coming to Switch 2 in the next six months or so, with a few also launching for the original Switch. If you were hoping for wall-to-wall first-party reveals, well, don't. The Direct featured a lot of ports, some updates to existing Switch 2 games, and just a few new ones, including a brand-new 2D Metroid.

Below, we've rounded up every trailer and announcement from the September 2026 Nintendo Direct.

Monster Hunter Wilds' Switch 2 release date

Nintendo kicked off the showcase with a look at Capcom's divisive Monster Hunter Wilds on Switch 2. It'll support local multiplayer, and it includes all Title Updates Capcom's released so far. It does not include the upcoming Ascendance expansion, though Nintendo said Ascendance will launch separately for the platform at some point. Monster Hunter Wilds on Switch 2 launches Dec. 4.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation on Switch 2

We've already seen a lot of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, but Square Enix popped another trailer in the Direct. It looks a bit less crisp, and I'm pretty sure I saw Yuffie's hair suffering from Cloud Syndrome, but overall, the brief glimpse looks comparable to how Remake and Rebirth function on Switch 2. FF7 Revelation launches April 8.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion gets a surprise Switch 2 version

If three games is still not enough Sephiroth for you, you can get a Switch 2 version of the very good (and, plot-wise, pretty much essential) Crisis Core: Final Fantasy Reunion now.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity finally has a Switch 2 edition

Age of Calamity was pretty rough on Switch, but the Switch 2 version gives it an Age of Imprisonment-style makeover with better resolution and higher framerates. There's a higher difficulty mode, too. And If you have the original version, you can get the digital Switch 2 edition, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Definitive Edition to use its full name, at a discount. Age of Calamity's Switch 2 version launches Feb. 25.

Meccha Chameleon is coming to Switch 2

2026's hot hide-and-seek game is coming to Switch 2. Really, we're just surprised more games like this haven't made their way off Steam. Meccha Chameleon on Switch 2 is out later today.

Pokémon get sunglasses in Pokopia's expansion pass

And ribbons and other unbearably adorable accessories. It's as over-the-top cute as it sounds, and more Pokémon are coming to Pokopia, including Doduo and Skitty. There's no release date, but the accessories DLC is planned for sometime later this year.

Nintendo's adding split-screen multiplayer to Star Fox

A free Star Fox update is adding split-screen multiplayer and three new battle mode stages. Four people can join in on a single Switch 2, as well. It's out Sept. 29.

Star Fox Adventures is finally coming to Nintendo Switch Online

After months of rumors about a new Star Fox Adventures, Nintendo showed up with the old one. Star Fox Adventures will land on NSO's GameCube app (available via the Expansion Pass) later today.

Get a look at The Witcher 3 Remastered on Switch 2

CD Projekt Red showed off The Witcher 3 Remastered running on Switch 2, and even if it (unsurprisingly) doesn't quite match what we've seen of it on other platforms, it looks so, so much better than the original version. The Witcher 3 Remastered launches Sept. 29, and it's a free upgrade if you already own the game on the original Switch.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is also coming to Switch 2

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, which we called one of 2025's best games, is also making its way to Nintendo's hybrid console in a "royal edition." It includes all previously released DLC, and it's out sometime in 2027.

Nintendo wants you to remember Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave is out soon

Despite a preview and months of teases, we still haven't seen much about Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave. And we still don't get to. The newest trailer is brief and only shows a bit of a white-clad warrior fighting what looks like undead.

Level-5 is back with Professor Layton and the New World of Steam

After years of silence, we get to see the new Professor Layton game, The New World of Steam. It's a brisk trailer that shows very little of the puzzles in action, but we do get a release date at least. Professor Layton and the New World of Steam launches Dec. 10.

Yo-Kai Watch gets a second chance at life

Yo-Kai Watch never quite found its footing outside Japan, but it's getting a chance in the near future. Level-5 teased Yo-Kai Watch 2: Haunted Domain for Switch 2. Is it a compilation of the tripartite Yo-Kai Watch 2? Something new? Who can say. Level-5 had little to reveal about it other than its existence.

Pikmin 4's Switch 2 edition lets you put Oatchi to work

Well, more than usual. The upgrade adds voice support so you can order Oatchi around with voice commands and tell him what a good boy he is. There's a new Dandori mode called Dandori Academy too, with multiple puzzles and three difficulty levels. Pikmin 4's Switch 2 edition launches on Nov. 12. If you already own Pikmin 4, you can get the Switch 2 edition by purchasing an upgrade pack.

Onyx: The Dark Grip actually uses Switch 2's touchscreen

Onyx: The Dark Grip looks a lot like a DS game. It's a new horror-puzzle game where you guide the protagonist via the touchscreen, but he views it as supernatural interference and might lose his mind if you keep doing it. Onyx launches sometime in 2027.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3's Switch 2 version adds a new mode and hero

The Switch 2 version of Xenoblade 3 adds a new RTS-lite mode where you guide a small army across the battlefield, taking down enemies and upgrading your fighters as you gradually unlock more heroes to join and face off against a giant foe at the end. Nintendo also revealed Shimmer, an attacker who can see the future, though didn't say how she fits into the story.

Stage Fright puts a horror-lite spin on Overcooked

The Overcooked devs are back with a new co-op multiplayer game, Stage Fright. You and your friends work together to make your way through a strange haunted town, and it looks absolutely charming. It's out on Switch and Switch 2 in 2027.

Ondeh Ondeh: Kaya's Tasty Tale is a delightful-looking rhythm platformer

There aren't enough rhythm platformers in the world, and Ondeh Ondeh: Kaya's Tasty Tale is here to change that. It's a charming-looking top-down platformer adventure about a young woman proving herself by traveling the world, scooping up its rhythms, and solving all its problems. It's out sometime in 2027.

The excellent Cairn is also coming to Switch 2

Cairn is a fantastic game about climbing a giant mountain and being very, very frustrated when you inevitably fail. It's out on Switch 2 in early 2027, and a demo is available later today.

Capcom remembered the Resident Evil remakes for Switch 2

Months after promising to put Resident Evil 2 remake, Resident Evil 3 remake, and Resident Evil 4 remake on Switch 2, Capcom turned up with trailers for each. They all have their respective DLCs and expansions included, and they're launching digitally on Oct. 16.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is — surprise! — also coming to Switch 2

I could probably have just said "every game is coming to Switch 2, enjoy" for this roundup and it would've been accurate. Anyhow, the new Tomb Raider game, Legacy of Atlantis, is coming to Switch 2 on Feb. 12.

Don't forget Nintendo Switch Sports Resort

It's been a while since Nintendo showed off Switch Sports Resort, but the Direct trailer highlights some of what you can do, including a new offline island crown mode. It's a Switch 2 exclusive, and it's out Oct. 22.

That new 2D Metroid rumor was true

Rumors swirled for months about a new 2D Metroid, and it turns out they were right. It's called Metroid Ravenous and it looks more action-packed than anything Mercury Steam did before. Samus is stranded on a moon desperately making her way to the surface, fighting giant snakes, samurai-like warriors, and using her special Metroid powers from Metroid Dread to absorb enemy abilities. Metroid Ravenous is out Jan. 28.

Mario Kart World gets another free update

It's not the rumored expansion, but Nintendo does have a new Mario Kart World update. It's free, and it makes those retro-looking courses dotted around the open-world playable, basically a free revamp of 10 classic Super Mario Kart courses. The update adds two new Knockout Tour routes as well. It goes live later today.

Marvelous gets in on the HD-2D action

Marvelous revealed Eternal Anima, about a world covered in water where there's just one city. One rule governs everyone: Don't make life better. Wade, the hero of the piece, discovers a new city and he can re-live the memories of previous heroes. It's all very Ursula K. Le Guin. Eternal Anima is out on March 4.

Another Danganronpa 2x2 trailer, at last

Following Danganronpa 2x2's delay earlier in the year, Spike Chunsoft had a new trailer to show. The game includes the original Danganronpa 2 and a new mode with difference scenarios that unfold after Monokuma disappears. Danganronpa 2x2 is out on Jan. 14 for Switch and Switch 2.

There's a Metal Slug collection now

Metal Slug: Ultimate Collection includes Metal Slug 1-6, X, 7, and Metal Slug Advance, along with the original location test version. The collection includes online co-op, and it's out in 2027.

And Yu-Gi-Oh Tag Force is back from the grave

Konami's reviving the old Yu-Gi-Oh Tag Force series with Tag Force GX on Switch and Switch 2. You and a partner work to become the best there ever was at a duel academy. Who needs math when you can just play cards? Tag Force GX is out on Feb. 16.

In the continuing spirit of nostalgia, Romancing Saga 3 is also back

Square Enix might've pared back its new releases, but it hasn't given up on making its classics available to modern audiences. Romancing Saga 3 Destinies United gives the original a makeover with updated graphics, a new soundtrack, and voice acting for cutscenes. It's out Feb. 16 for Switch and Switch 2.

Persona 4 Revival and Persona 6 are coming to Switch 2

Atlus is launching Persona 4 Revival on Switch 2, but later than its release on other platforms. It's out on May 20. Hopefully, the port runs better than the Persona 3 Reload port did at launch. Persona 6 is also coming to Switch 2, though there's no release date for that.

There's a new 3D Kirby game

Nintendo closed things out with a new Kirby game reveal. It looks a bit like "what if Kirby did his own Donkey Kong Bananza?" The pink puffball runs and floats around big, open areas, sucking up foes, tracking down treasures, and smacking King Dedede around — all the usual stuff, until a flying purple lady turns up and gives Kirby a magic sword that slices through space and time into the world beyond. Hence the name. Kirby and the World Beyond is out in spring 2027.
